Google Business Profile posts, checked, approved and scheduled

Google Business Profile posts are short updates, offers and events that show on your profile. In OpenGMB you write a post once for one location or many. Rules check it, it needs approval, and you send it now or schedule it in the client's time zone.

How do I write and schedule a Google Business Profile post?

Three steps, from the first draft to the send.

  1. Write the post

Pick Standard, Event or Offer, add one image and a button: Book, Order, Shop, Learn more, Sign up or Call. The text can run up to 1,500 characters, which is our own limit because Google states none.

  2. Rules check it, then it needs approval

Submitting runs the rules for every location the post targets. Then someone with approval rights approves it. Posts have no auto-approve.

  3. Send now or schedule

Send it now, or pick a time in the client's time zone. A schedule can repeat weekly or monthly. OpenGMB does the sending, so a post can go out up to about a minute after its time.

Can I plan posts on a calendar?

Yes. Scheduled and sent posts show on a month calendar.

  • The calendar shows scheduled sends, the future dates of repeating posts and past sends.

  • A repeating series keeps its local time when daylight saving changes.

  • Posts made outside OpenGMB are synced in, so the calendar shows them too.

Can I post to many locations at once?

Yes. One post can go to several locations of one client, with a result for each.

One post, many locations

Pick the locations when you write the post. The rules run for each one, and you see a result per location.

Import from a CSV

Import up to 500 drafts from a CSV. Use variables such as {name} and {city} to fill in each location's details. Imported rows become drafts, so each one still needs approval.

Draft with AI

AI can write a different post for up to 20 locations at a time. Each one lands in the approval queue as its own post.

Built in: what do the rules check on a post?

Every post is checked before anyone can approve it, and again for each location just before it is sent.

What the rules block

A phone number in the post text is blocked (P.phone). Use the Call button, which uses the location's phone.

Links and email addresses in the text are blocked too (U7.url, U7.email). Put a link on the button instead. Event and offer details are checked as well (P.event).

Edits after publishing

A change to a post that is already live is a new proposal. Nothing reaches Google until someone with approval rights approves it.

Posts made outside OpenGMB are synced in, but you cannot edit them here.

Post for a cleaning companyBlocked

Spring cleaning special this month. Call 555-0142 to book.

  • P.phone (blocks publishing) Summary contains a phone number; remove it and use the CALL button instead.

Can I reuse post templates and images?

Yes. Save a post as a template, and keep your images in a library.

  • A template holds the post type, text, button, event or offer details and one library image.

  • Library images are JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB each. Storage is 50 MB per account, shared by all of its clients.

  • Make a branded image in one of two layouts, band or frame.

Who uses it for Google posts: restaurants and multi-location agencies

Restaurant owner

A restaurant owner writes an Event post for a Friday tasting and schedules it for Tuesday at 10 AM. The same owner repeats a monthly Offer post, and nothing goes out until someone with approval rights approves it.

Agency managing several clients

A client with many locations gets one post and a result for each location. The agency's team drafts, and the client's approver approves in the client portal.

The audit log shows who approved which post. One price covers the account.

Which credits do Google posts use?

As of 2026-10-24, OpenGMB costs $10 a month per account. The $10 is usage credit, and only AI drafts and rank scans use it.

Questions about Google Business Profile posts

Do Google Business Profile posts need approval in OpenGMB?

Yes. Posts always need approval from someone with approval rights. There is no auto-approve for posts.

Can I schedule recurring posts?

Yes. A schedule can repeat weekly or monthly, and it needs an end date or a count, so nothing repeats forever.

Why was my phone number blocked?

Google can reject a post that includes a phone number it cannot tie to the business. OpenGMB blocks a phone number in the text and asks you to use the Call button, which uses the location's phone.

Can I edit a post after it is published?

Yes. The change is a new proposal that needs approval before it reaches Google. Posts made outside OpenGMB are synced in, but you cannot edit them here.
