If you need citations or reviews from 80+ (verified 2026-10-24) sites, BrightLocal is the stronger tool.

What does BrightLocal offer, and what does it cost?
BrightLocal sells three plans, priced per location. For one location, its pricing page lists Track at $41 (verified 2026-10-24) a month ($369 (verified 2026-10-24) billed yearly), Manage at $54 (verified 2026-10-24) ($485 (verified 2026-10-24) yearly) and Grow at $65 (verified 2026-10-24) ($584 (verified 2026-10-24) yearly). Track covers the Local AI Visibility Tracker, local SEO audits, up to 100 keywords and four competitors (verified 2026-10-24) for rank monitoring, and up to five keywords on a geo-grid (verified 2026-10-24). Manage adds AI Insights, listing sync and scheduled Google Business Profile posts. Grow adds monitoring and replies across multiple sites (verified 2026-10-24), plus review requests by email, SMS and in-store campaigns (verified 2026-10-24). The trial is 14 days of full access, no card (verified 2026-10-24). - Add-ons on the same page: Citation Builder starts at $2 (verified 2026-10-24) per citation, and the FAQ lists $3.20 (verified 2026-10-24) per site without bulk credits. Managed SEO Service is $1,299 (verified 2026-10-24) a month. API pricing is custom (verified 2026-10-24). For 100+ locations the page says price on request (verified 2026-10-24).
- Another BrightLocal page, Reputation Manager, shows $44 (verified 2026-10-24) a month per location. That does not match the pricing page, so we use the pricing page.
How much does OpenGMB cost, with two examples?
OpenGMB is $10 a month per account, and the $10 is usage credit. Google calls are free, with a fair-use limit. AI drafts and rank scans use the credit, both at our cost plus 28%. If the credit runs out, only AI drafts and rank scans pause. A typical reply draft is about $0.0004. That is an estimate, not a price: each draft is charged at its metered cost plus 28%. The usage numbers below are our own assumptions, not averages.
Owner, 1 location
A month with no AI drafts and no rank scans costs the flat $10. A typical month adds 30 AI drafts and 4 rank scans on a 5x5 grid. That uses about $0.09 of the $10, so the bill is $10.
BrightLocal Grow, the plan that includes review replies, is $65 (verified 2026-10-24) a month for one location, or $584 (verified 2026-10-24) billed yearly. It also includes things OpenGMB does not, such as 80+ (verified 2026-10-24) review sites.
Agency, 10 locations
A month with no AI drafts and no rank scans costs the flat $10. A typical month adds 150 AI drafts and 20 rank scans on a 7x7 grid. That uses about $0.81 of the $10, so the bill is $10.
BrightLocal in the 6 to 10 location band is $83 (verified 2026-10-24) (Track), $109 (verified 2026-10-24) (Manage) or $131 (verified 2026-10-24) (Grow) a month billed monthly, and $1,178 (verified 2026-10-24) a year for Grow. These are different products. OpenGMB does not include citations or 80+ (verified 2026-10-24) review sites, so the saving is real only if you do not need them.
Why do people look for a BrightLocal alternative?
We only list reasons that BrightLocal's own pages support.
- Price grows with locations. Grow is $65 (verified 2026-10-24) a month for one location, $131 (verified 2026-10-24) for 6 to 10 locations and $197 (verified 2026-10-24) for 11 to 20, billed monthly.
- Review replies and review requests sit in the top plan. Grow adds monitoring and replies across multiple sites (verified 2026-10-24), and review requests go out by email, SMS and in-store campaigns (verified 2026-10-24).
- The MCP server needs an active Grow plan and access to BrightLocal Labs (verified 2026-10-24).
- Citations are an add-on, not part of any plan. They start at $2 (verified 2026-10-24) each and are bought separately.
What is different about OpenGMB?
Approval first
Posts and profile edits need approval, and so do replies unless the owner turns on auto-approve for 4- or 5-star reviews. Rules such as U7.url and PR.description-length check the text first, and the audit log records who approved.
MCP
Connect Claude or any MCP client to https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp. It is included on the $10 plan. A read only token cannot change anything. A read and write token acts with its owner's rights, so some actions return a proposal and others, such as approving a reply, run straight away. Built-in AI drafts are the second option.
One price per account
$10 a month, and the $10 is usage credit. Ten locations do not cost ten times as much. Google calls are free, with a fair-use limit.
See how approvals work on the guardrails page or read about the Google Business Profile MCP.
Where is BrightLocal stronger?
Honestly, in several places. If any of these matter to you, BrightLocal is the better pick.
- Citations. Citation Builder covers 1,000+ (verified 2026-10-24) sites in 20 (verified 2026-10-24) countries. OpenGMB has none.
- Reviews beyond Google. BrightLocal follows mentions across 80+ (verified 2026-10-24) sites. OpenGMB reads Google only.
- Audit depth. 300+ (verified 2026-10-24) automated checks, against 23 health checks in OpenGMB.
- SMS and in-store review requests. BrightLocal sends review requests by email, SMS and in-store campaigns (verified 2026-10-24). OpenGMB sends review requests by email and offers links, QR codes and a website widget, with no SMS.
- Rank tracking with real data. BrightLocal grids come in 3×3, 5×5, 7×7, 11×11 and 15×15 (verified 2026-10-24), and Track includes up to five keywords on a geo-grid (verified 2026-10-24). OpenGMB grids run 3x3 to 13x13, and until DataForSEO is connected, heatmaps are labeled sample data.
How do you switch from BrightLocal to OpenGMB?
- List what you actually use in BrightLocal. If it is citations or non-Google reviews, keep that part.
- Start with the $0.50 of free credit. No card needed.
- Connect Google with the official Business Profile API and import your locations. The 23 health checks run on each one.
- Connect Claude over MCP, or use the built-in AI drafts. Start the agent on a read only token, and approve the first few replies by hand.
- Cancel BrightLocal only after OpenGMB covers the work you still need.
Questions about BrightLocal alternatives
What is the best BrightLocal alternative?
It depends on the job. For Google Business Profile reviews, posts, reports and rank scans, OpenGMB costs $10 a month per account, and posts and profile edits need approval. If you rely on citations or reviews from 80+ (verified 2026-10-24) sites, BrightLocal is the stronger tool and OpenGMB is not a replacement.
Is OpenGMB cheaper than BrightLocal?
For Google Business Profile work, usually yes. As of 2026-10-24, BrightLocal starts at $41 (verified 2026-10-24) a month for one location and rises with each band of locations. OpenGMB is $10 a month per account, plus any AI drafts and rank scans you run, so the gap grows as you add locations. The feature sets differ, so read the table above first.
Does OpenGMB build citations like BrightLocal?
No. OpenGMB does not build or track citations, and it reads Google reviews only. If citations matter to you, keep BrightLocal for that or use a dedicated citation tool.
Can I connect Claude to OpenGMB?
Yes. OpenGMB has a public MCP server at https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp, with tools such as reviews_list_unreplied and reviewReplies_createDraft. BrightLocal also lists an MCP server, but it needs an active Grow plan and access to BrightLocal Labs (verified 2026-10-24).
Is there a free trial?
OpenGMB gives a 14-day trial with $0.50 of credit and no card. After it ends the account is read-only until you subscribe. BrightLocal gives 14 days of full access, no card (verified 2026-10-24), and afterward you can log in and view data, but you cannot run new reports or refresh until you activate a plan (verified 2026-10-24).
Can OpenGMB reply to reviews without my approval?
Only if you turn it on. Replies need approval by default. An optional rule auto-approves replies to 4- or 5-star reviews, and the owner has to turn it on. Auto-approve never covers replies to 1 to 3 star reviews.
Try it on one profile first.
$0.50 free credit, no card. Posts and profile edits go through approval before they go live.
