Google Business Profile description checker

Paste your Google Business Profile description and check it before you save it. The tool counts characters and flags links, email addresses and hashtags. Descriptions follow the same rules for every industry, so there is nothing to pick. It is free, needs no account, and saves nothing.

Description checks are the same for every industry.

The limit is 750 characters, the one Google has long applied. Its help page does not print the number (checked 2026-10-24). Google Help says no links of any type are allowed in the description. Source, checked 2026-10-24.

What you get

A live character count

See how close you are to the limit while you type, counted the way the profile check counts it.

The no-links rule

Google Help says no links of any type are allowed in a description. The check also catches email addresses and hashtags.

Plain reasons

Each finding names the rule, says whether it blocks or only warns, and marks the words that set it off.

Questions about this checker

Where do the rules for the description checker come from?

They come from the same rule engine OpenGMB runs before anything goes live. This page calls it with your text and shows you the result. Nothing here is a lookalike.

Do you save what I paste?

No. The text is checked and thrown away. It is not stored, not logged, and not used to train anything. Closing the tab ends it.

How long can a Google Business Profile description be?

The checker flags descriptions over 750 characters. That is the limit Google has long applied, but its help page does not print the number, so we cannot call it confirmed. Checked 2026-10-24.

Can a description include a link?

No. Google Help says no links of any type are allowed. Put your website in the website field instead.

Why is there no industry picker?

Profile checks in OpenGMB run the same way for every industry, so this tool does too.

Is there a limit on how many checks I can run?

The tool is free and needs no account. To keep it available for everyone, it allows about 20 checks a minute from one connection. A person pasting text will not notice.

Does a pass mean my text follows Google's policies or the law?

No. A pass means none of our rules found a problem. It is not legal advice, and it does not promise Google will accept the text. The legal rules are still waiting on review by a lawyer, and results from them say so.

Want these checks on every reply and post?

OpenGMB costs $10 a month per account. New accounts get a 14-day trial with $0.50 credit and no card. A person approves posts and profile edits before they go live, and replies too unless you turn on auto-approve for 4 and 5 star reviews.
