Connect Claude to Google Business Profile via MCP
To connect Claude to Google Business Profile, create an API token in OpenGMB, then add the MCP server at https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp to your client with that token in an Authorization header. A read only token can look but never change anything. A Read & write token acts with its owner's rights.

What do I need before I start?
- An OpenGMB account with your Google account connected and at least one location imported. New accounts get a 14-day trial with $0.50 of credit, no card.
- A client that can reach a remote MCP server over HTTP. The steps below cover Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor, plus the plain values for any other client.
- Node.js on your computer, for Claude Desktop only. It connects through a small bridge called
mcp-remote. - The server address is
https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp. It must be HTTPS because your token travels in a header.
How do I create a token?
- Open Settings, then API tokens (
/settings/tokens) in the app. - Give the token a name you will recognize, such as "Claude on my laptop".
- Choose the access. Read only can look but never change anything. Read & write can also run write tools, with the rights of the person who owns the token.
- Select Create token and copy it right away. It is shown once and cannot be recovered.
Some roles are limited. A client viewer can only have read only tokens. A client approver's write token can only approve or reject replies. Revoke a token at any time and anything using it stops working. The tokens table shows when each one was last used. Details are on the API tokens page.
How do I connect my client?
Replace <token> with the token you just copied.
Claude Code
One command adds the server. Checked against Claude Code's docs on 2026-10-24: code.claude.com/docs/en/mcp.
claude mcp add --transport http opengmb https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"
Then ask Claude a question about your reviews, as in the examples further down.
Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop starts local programs, so it reaches a remote server through the mcp-remote bridge. Open its settings, choose Developer, then Edit Config, add this to claude_desktop_config.json and restart Claude Desktop. Checked against Claude Desktop's docs on 2026-10-24: modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/develop/connect-local-servers.

Cursor takes a remote server as a URL plus headers in its mcp.json file. Checked against Cursor's docs on 2026-10-24: cursor.com/docs/context/mcp.

}ChatGPT and other clients
Any MCP client that supports streamable HTTP and lets you set a request header can connect with these values. We have not checked ChatGPT's connector documentation, so look for where it asks for a URL and a header. If its connector screen on your plan has no place for a custom header, it cannot connect to OpenGMB yet.
URL: https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp Transport: streamable HTTP Header: Authorization: Bearer <token>
The endpoint is stateless and takes POST requests only, so opening the address in a browser returns a 405 error. That is normal.
What can the agent do?
Reading is direct. Writing follows one of two paths. Until per-token agent modes ship, a Read & write token acts with its owner's rights: some actions return a proposal, and others, such as approving a reply, run straight away. You choose how much your agent can do by choosing the token's access and which person owns it.
Tools with their own approval steps
Reply drafts, posts and profile change sets move through draft, approval and publish steps. Claude creates a draft with reviewReplies_createDraft or a similar tool, and it appears in the approvals inbox as "Drafted by Claude via MCP". These tools run when called, so the later steps, such as approving, are also available to a token that may write. They accept dryRun set to true, which returns a preview and creates no draft.
Two-phase proposals
Booking links, photos, rank trackers, groups, imports and similar changes work in two phases. The first call stores a proposal and returns a proposalId, an expiry time and a preview. Nothing changes yet. A proposal expires 15 minutes after it is created and can be applied once. The rules run again when it is applied. You can apply or cancel it on the AI agents page in the app, or tell your agent to call mcp_proposals_apply. These tools always store a proposal, with or without dryRun.
An agent's call is billed like a person's. Google Business Profile calls are free, with a fair-use limit on each account, and the credit pays only for AI drafts and rank scans. The $10 a month is that credit. See billing and credits.
Resources the agent can open
review-queue(opengmb://reviews/queue): Replies pending approval, blocked or conflicted, and posts pending approval or blocked. Needs thereview:approvepermission.google-pending-updates(opengmb://google/pending-updates): Open profile changes: edits made outside OpenGMB and updates Google suggested. Needs thelocation:readpermission.audit-recent(opengmb://audit/recent): The last 100 audit rows. Needs theaudit:readpermission.
What can I ask Claude to do?
Try these once the server is connected. The note under each one says what it needs.
Which reviews from the last 7 days have no reply yet?
Read only. Works with a read only token.
Draft a reply to the newest 2-star review at the Eastside shop. Do not publish it.
Creates a draft in the approvals inbox. Needs a token that may write.
Draft thank-you replies to this week's 5-star reviews at Main Street. Keep them for me to approve.
Each draft is checked by the rules and appears in the approvals inbox.
Which of my locations have health checks failing?
Read only.
Set up a rank tracker for "emergency plumber" at Eastside.
Returns a proposal that expires after 15 minutes. Apply it when you are ready.
More on what each tool does is in the Google Business Profile MCP server overview.
What if something goes wrong?
I get 401 Unauthorized. What is wrong?
The server could not match your token. Check that the header reads Authorization: Bearer followed by the token with no extra quotes or spaces, that the token has not been revoked, and that you copied the whole thing. Repeated bad tokens from one address are slowed down with a 429 response, so wait before retrying.
A write fails with FORBIDDEN. Why?
A read only token cannot run write tools, and that includes dry runs. A client approver's write token can only approve or reject replies. Create a new token with Read & write access under Settings, API tokens, update your client, and revoke the old one. Some roles can only create read only tokens.
My proposal says it expired. What now?
Proposals last 15 minutes and apply once. An expired one returns a CONFLICT error that says to call the tool again. Ask your agent to propose the change again, then apply the new proposal. Applied proposals cannot be applied twice.
