Google ended the Business Profile Q&A API: what it means

Google discontinued the My Business Q&A API on November 3, 2025, so no software can read or post questions and answers through it any more. Whether the questions section still shows on a live profile is a separate matter that Google's developer notes do not cover. Answer common questions on your website, in your description and in posts.

What did Google change?

Google discontinued the My Business Q&A API on November 3, 2025. Google's change log says you can no longer read or post questions and answers using the API. The notification types for new and updated questions and answers are deprecated too.

The warning came first. An entry dated 2025-09-15 said Google was discontinuing the API while it updated the Q&A functionality and user experience, and told developers to stop using it before the date.

What does the change log not tell us?

Be careful here. The change log is about the API. We looked for a Google page that says what happened to the questions section on live profiles, and did not find one. Industry blogs have reported on it, but we are only stating what Google itself has published.

So check your own profile on Google, and do not assume the section behaves the same everywhere. If Google publishes a help page on it, we will update this post.

What can a business do instead of Q&A?

The questions customers ask have not gone away. They need a home you control.

  • Put the answers on your own website. A plain FAQ page costs nothing to keep current.
  • Work the answers into your profile description, in a sentence or two. Leave out links and offers.
  • Publish a short post that answers one common question. Posts about opening hours, parking or what to bring are the usual ones.
  • Answer questions inside review replies when a reviewer raises one. The answer then sits next to the review.

Posts are the closest match. Our page on Google Business Profile posts covers writing, scheduling and approving them.

What does this mean for tools that offer Q&A?

If a tool still says it manages profile Q&A through Google's API, ask how. The API route is closed. OpenGMB does not offer Q&A management through the API, for that reason. Our post on the Google Business Profile API explains what the API does cover.

Do it with OpenGMB

  1. Open Posts and start a new draft for the location.
  2. Write a short answer to one question customers ask often.
  3. Fix anything a rule blocks, then submit the post. Posts always need someone with approval rights.

With Claude or another MCP client, connect the server at https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp (the Get started with OpenGMB page covers the account side). The tool posts_createDraft saves a post as a draft.

Prompt for Claude or any MCP client

Use the opengmb MCP server. Call workspaces_list and find the location
named [LOCATION NAME]. Write a short Google Business Profile post that
answers this question customers ask: [QUESTION]. Keep it plain, with no
link, phone number or offer.

Save it with posts_createDraft. Do not submit, schedule or publish it.
Show me the draft.

The draft waits for you. Submitting it runs the rules, and approving it is a separate step for someone with approval rights.

Questions about the Q&A API change

Can I still add Q&A to my Google Business Profile through the API?

No. Google's change log says you can no longer read or post questions and answers using the API.

What happened to the Q&A section on my profile?

Google's developer change log is about the API and does not say. We did not find a Google page that covers it, so check your own profile on Google.

Is there a replacement for the Q&A API?

The change log names none. It says Google was updating the Q&A functionality and user experience.

Does this affect reviews or posts?

No. They are separate parts of the API. Google's reference still lists the reviews and local posts methods.
