$10 a month: how usage credit works

The $10 a month is usage credit, not a fee for Google calls. Google Business Profile work is free, with a fair-use limit. The credit pays for AI drafts and rank scans at our real cost plus 28%. If it reaches zero, only those two pause.

What does the monthly plan pay for?

OpenGMB costs $10 a month per account, and that amount comes back to you as usage credit. The credit pays for two things: AI drafts and rank scans.

It does not pay for Google. Publishing, edits, refreshes, imports and syncs are free, and so is reading what has already synced. Google does not charge us per call, so we do not charge you. Every account has a fair-use limit, which means normal work is unlimited and abuse is not.

One account can hold any number of locations. There is no per-location fee.

How are AI drafts and rank scans priced?

Both are charged at their real metered cost plus 28%. We do not guess at a flat price. Each draft or scan is charged for what it actually cost.

  • AI drafts: an estimate for a typical reply draft is $0.0004. It is an estimate, not a price, because longer reviews cost a little more to read.
  • Rank scans: one grid point for one keyword costs us $0.0006 from DataForSEO, and you pay that plus the markup. A bigger grid has more points, and each keyword is its own scan.

The reference tables live in the billing and credits docs. This post is the story around them.

What does a month look like in practice?

Two worked examples, both labeled examples. Your numbers will differ.

  • One owner: 1 location, 30 AI drafts and 4 rank scans on a 5 by 5 grid. That uses about $0.09 of credit and leaves about $9.91. The month costs $10.
  • One agency: 10 locations, 150 AI drafts and 20 rank scans on a 7 by 7 grid. That uses about $0.81 and leaves about $9.19. The month still costs $10, which works out to about $1.00 a location.

Most accounts will never touch the ceiling. Honestly, the credit is there so you can see what AI and scans cost, not so you can ration them. The pricing page has an estimator if you want to try your own numbers.

What happens when the credit reaches zero?

When the credit reaches $0, AI drafts and rank scans pause. Everything else keeps working, and we never bill after the fact.

Publishing, scheduled posts, replies you already approved and syncs carry on. Everything already synced stays readable. Top up, or wait for next month's credit, and the paused work resumes.

Does credit roll over, and how do top-ups work?

Included credit does not roll over to the next month. Top-up credit expires 12 months after you buy it and is not refundable.

A top-up is prepaid credit you add when a busy month runs past the included amount. You pay before you use it, and we never bill after the fact.

How does the trial work?

New accounts get a 14-day trial with $0.50 of credit and no card. After the trial the account is read-only until you subscribe.

Do it with OpenGMB

  1. Open Settings, then Billing. Owners see the balance, each block of credit and when it expires.
  2. Check the recent use table. It lists each AI draft and rank scan and what it cost.
  3. Top up there if you need more.

If you use Claude or another MCP client, connect the server at https://opengmb.synectus.com/mcp (the MCP setup docs have the steps). MCP is included in the plan. A prompt that only reads synced data does not use credit, so this one is free to run.

Prompt for Claude or any MCP client

Use the opengmb MCP server. Call workspaces_list and tell me how many
locations I have. Do not change anything.

A read-only token can look but not change anything, and a read and write token acts with the rights of the person who made it.
