Free local rank checker for Google Maps

Where does your business show up on Google Maps when someone searches your keyword? Pick your business, type the keyword, and this checker shows your position from one point, with the top five businesses beside you. It is free and needs no account. One point is a snapshot, because Maps rankings change from block to block. Checks are limited each day so the tool stays free for everyone.

How do I check my Google Maps ranking?

Checking today's allowance

The check runs from the business's own location.

These checks apply OpenGMB's own reading of Google's published policies. They are not legal advice, and they are not made, approved or endorsed by Google. Google decides what it accepts and changes its policies, so a pass here does not guarantee Google will publish your text.

What does the rank checker show?

Your position, plainly

A number from 1 to 20, or a clear "not in the top 20". No score you have to decode.

The five businesses ahead

Names and star ratings of the top five results for the same search, so you can see who you are up against.

A look at the full map

A 49 point grid preview shows what one check leaves out. The other 48 points are blank here and filled in when you scan them in OpenGMB.

Questions about checking your local rank

Why does my ranking change when I move a few blocks?

Google Maps ranks by how close the searcher is, along with relevance and prominence. Stand a few blocks away and the order of the same businesses can change. That is why one number never tells the whole story.

What is a geo-grid rank tracker?

It runs the same search from many points laid out in a grid around your business, often 49 points in a 7 by 7 square, and shows your position at each one. You see where you are strong and where you disappear.

How often should I check my local rank?

Weekly is enough for most businesses. Rankings move slowly, and checking daily mostly shows you noise. OpenGMB rank tracking can repeat the full grid scan every week and keep the history.

How accurate is a one point check?

It shows what a searcher standing at the business's own location sees at that moment. It is a sample, not your overall rank. We save each result for 24 hours, so searching the same business and keyword again within a day shows the saved result and tells you when it was checked.

Why are there daily limits?

Every fresh check costs real money to run. The tool allows ten fresh checks a day across all visitors and two per person. A saved result does not count against either. When the day's checks are gone, the page says so and comes back at midnight UTC.

Can I check a competitor?

Yes. Search for any business on Google Maps. The check always runs from that business's own location.

Do you keep what I type?

We keep the result for 24 hours so repeat checks cost nothing. It holds the business, a one-way fingerprint of the keyword, the position and the top five names. We never store your IP address, only a one-way hash used to count your daily checks.

Scan the whole map and track it every week

A single check is one point. OpenGMB rank tracking scans a grid of points around your business, shows where you rank at each one, and repeats it every week so you can see what your work changed.
