Google review request templates
The best time to ask for a Google review is right after the job, while the customer still remembers it. Pick text, email, in person or receipt and get three short messages to copy, each with your review link. A wording check flags anything that only invites happy customers, which Google does not allow. Nothing you enter is stored.
Get three messages that ask for a Google review
Message 1
Wording check: passes
Hi! Thanks for choosing us for your job. Would you share an honest Google review? It takes about a minute: {review link}
Message 2
Wording check: passes
Thanks again for your job with us. If you have a minute, a Google review helps other people find us: {review link}
Message 3
Wording check: passes
It was great working with you. We read every Google review, and here is the link if you would like to write one: {review link}
Check your own wording
Paste a message you already use. The check looks for wording that asks only happy customers, steers unhappy ones away, or offers something in return, which Google's review policy does not allow.

These checks apply OpenGMB's own reading of Google's published policies. They are not legal advice, and they are not made, approved or endorsed by Google. Google decides what it accepts and changes its policies, so a pass here does not guarantee Google will publish your text.
What do you get from the review request templates?
Three messages per choice
Pick a business type, a channel and a tone. You get three messages, written in advance, ready to copy.
A wording check
Every message here passes the check. Paste your own message to see whether it asks only happy customers, steers unhappy ones away, or offers something in return.
Your link in the message
Paste your review link and it goes into every message. Without one, the message keeps a {review link} placeholder.
How do I ask customers for a Google review?
Ask soon after the job, ask everyone, and make it one tap: send the link, not directions. A short message with the link beats a long one without it.
Use the channel you already use with that customer. A same-day text suits a service call. An email suits an invoice. In person works when you hand over a card or show the link on your phone.
What should a review request text say?
Thank the customer, ask for an honest review, and put the link last so it is the thing they tap. Leave out the rating, the incentive and any question about how it went.
What is a good review request email template?
Keep the subject plain, such as "Would you review us on Google?" Two or three lines in the body, one link, your name. The email templates above follow that shape.
Is it okay to ask only happy customers for a review?
No. Google's policy says a business may not "Discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers". The policy does not use the words review gating, but that is what it describes.
Asking "if you had a great experience" selects the happy ones, so it counts. Asking how someone rates you before sending the link does too. Ask everyone the same way. Source: Google's policy, read 2026-10-27.
How many days after a job should I ask?
There is no rule from Google. Same day or the next day works well for most jobs, while the customer still remembers it. If you send a reminder, send one, and not more.
Questions about asking for Google reviews
Can I ask every customer?
Yes, and you should. Asking everyone is allowed. Choosing who to ask by how they felt is review gating.
Can I give a coupon for a review?
No. Offering something in exchange for a review is against Google's policy.
Should I use text or email?
Use whichever channel you already have permission to use with that customer.
Do I need my review link first?
It helps. Use the review link page on this site to get it, then paste it into the box above. Without it the messages keep a {review link} placeholder.
Does the tool save my message or my business name?
No. The messages are built in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored.
Can OpenGMB send these for me?
OpenGMB sends review requests as email campaigns (up to 500 recipients per import, with an optional reminder). It does not send text messages, so a text goes from your own phone.
Send this message to every customer
OpenGMB sends a review request by email to a list you import, with an optional reminder to people who have not clicked, and its own wording check refuses requests that ask for stars or ratings.
